I've updated the graph to the latest job survey and focussed in on the last five years
And the ratio of the total of these two data sets to the available vacancies over the last five years.
Source: Office of National Statistics, tables MGSC (ILO Unemployment Level Ages 16-64 - Quarterly seasonally adjusted), LFM2 (Inactive - wants a job - Quarterly seasonally adjusted) and AP2Y (All vacancies - Quarterly seasonally adjusted).

absolutely fascinating - thank you.
v interesting how flat that blue line is all through the recession.
would be better still
a) with an indicator of the number *in* employment as well
and, harder,
b) with something to show the numbers on fraudulent incapacity benefit &c as well.
Niel,
Over the last few years you have answered a number of my questions, I think, today at NEP regarding MV=PY and a number of times in the past at Bill Mitchell's blog. I clicked through to your site so now have the opportunity to say thank you.
